
For some years nature photography consumed me. I worked in 35 mm because it was affordable and convenient. Eventually I began working with a 4 x 5" view camera. 35 mm is just too small a format for some things. It was obvious to me that a lot of very good work had already been done. There was no point in doing the usual wildlife other than to say I can do that too. The square images were made with Hasselblads. They're square. And sometimes that's the way it should be.






Window Ice

Side pool of the Dosewallips River, didn't look like this to the naked eye, but I was looking through a polarizer
which eliminated the sky shine on the ice. I enriched the colors just by carefully exploring the angle to the light
& adjusting the polarizer until it maximized the color density.

Ice patterns on the Volvo windshield at sunrise. Sun-like bright spot is just a brighter area of sky.
